Boston Marathon

Boston Marathon – April 18 | Lazarex Cancer Foundation

At the beginning of March 2010 I decided to run my first marathon – the Seattle Rock n Roll Marathon in June 2010. And WOW! I beat my goal of breaking four hours with a Boston Marathon Qualifying Time. Off to Boston I went last April 2011 and ran a 3:24:35 for my second marathon! Unfortunately I was hit in my left Achilles Tendon by a garbage collector pushing a cart at Fenway the day before the run and it did produce chronic injury. Thankfully I am now recovering several months later from tendinosis.

To provide motivation I supported the Lazarex Cancer Foundation last year and did again this year.

My father, Marty, had cancer for 10 years and the original prognosis was only six months. He was tough and survived pretty happily another 10 years passing away this Fall of 2010. Fortunately he served in the Navy during WWII and had good coverage. Many cancer patients and their families are less fortunate and suffer not only from the disease, but the financial burden as well. I’m sure you also know people who have cancer that may be struggling with the emotional strain of paying for treatment. This is where The Lazarex Foundation is a huge help.

Lazarex Cancer Foundation builds a bridge to hope, dignity and life for cancer patients and their families. They provide financial assistance to defray the costs associated with patient participation in FDA clinical trials. Additionally, they help patients navigate their clinical trial options and provide community education and outreach services. Their mission is to provide resources for cancer patients who’ve been told they have no other options, but who are not yet done with their journey in life and refuse to give up now.

I almost doubled my goal raising nearly $2,000!!! Thanks to all of you for supporting Lazarex and motivating me to run!
